This song was one of the first ever written - I think EV was only about 15 when she started it. The first and third verses were based on a dream, and the second verse was heard in a dream after writing!
Your bones in my hands start to fracture and break
the sounds of the dawning, the scent of the morning
start to eat into you
dissolving to water in my dream, so real to this fake.
Cinnamon dust to bring to my senses
you'll never be true
now I feel so defenceless, your life
locked away
withering and waiting for the day
when I hold you close, to make my dreams stay.
I once had a dream you were trapped in my pocket
I fed you dead flies
just to keep you alive
but now you have gone, I still keep your hair in a small golden locket.
Cinnamon dust to bring to my senses
you'll never be true
now I feel so defenceless, your life
locked away
withering and waiting for the day
when I hold you close, to make my dreams stay.
And though every morning you must say goodbye
as we reach the shore through that long corridor
I know that you're real as the dream starts to fade
and I open my eyes with a sigh.

The Uncarved Block
01:24
|
|||
Sit and watch the leaves as mountains grow and die beneath your feet.
Why imagine what it's like to fly? Time's inconsequential to the skies.
And when soil welcomes you back, yours will be a life well spent.
(The uncarved block, or Pú, is a Taoist concept. Look it up!)

Different Home
00:22
|

They haven't closed their curtains in three days now; their room is a reflection of my own. Except the door that's in the other wall leads to another life: I wonder what it's like to be inside a different home?

Sister

Sister, let's take a walk outside - we'll build a den to hide from the future. And after tea we'll play with toys, why think about boys just yet?
Sister, you come home as day breaks a mask full of makeup and drunken mistakes once again.
You've a lock on your door to try and separate your world, this never happened before you've so many new smells it's so confusing.
Sister, I still see something there - hidden beneath your hair - the one I used to know. I don't see why you have to hide the real person deep inside this shiny shell.
And all those rumours that i heard, i didn't want them to be true. With so many ways of pleasing people, sister, that's just not you.

Mother

Mother won't be coming home today.
She took her last breaths as she stood out in the lane.
Red flowers spill from broken vases and fall from lips onto dry grass.
I play with my hair in the cavern of my room, with eyes and heart pressed to the windowpane.
My eyes are cracked and cannot see the light.
And all I hear is silence, each and every night.
Red flowers spill from broken vases and fall from lips onto dry grass.
But I still feel her kiss upon my brow.
My head's in television while her eyes are in the clouds.

I Am An Organ
00:28
|
|||
The 'percussion' on this track is all created by hitting different parts of the body, to create a really organic sound.
I am an organ, I exist to breathe and beat. I am an organ, this troubled soul's just bones and meat.
These legs are legs, these eyes are eyes, this skin is not some great disguise, and I feel free.
